Georgia Southern Match Canceled Due To Hurricane Florence
TROY, Ala. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns soccer team is slated to open Sun Belt Conference play on Friday at 7 p.m. as the squad faces Troy at the Troy Soccer Complex. Live scoring and video for the match is available on RaginCajuns.com.
Louisiana's contest against Georgia Southern scheduled for Sunday in Statesboro, Ga. has been canceled due to the expected effects of Hurricane Florence. Officials from both schools and the conference are looking to reschedule the contest for later this season.
The Ragin' Cajuns (1-5-2) are coming off of a pair of losses at the Rice Tournament last weekend. Louisiana is 5-6-1 in Sun Belt Conference openers with head coach Scot Wieland at the helm including a 3-1-1 mark in the last five seasons.
Senior Lexi Turner leads the team with three points on the year including a game-winning goal and an assist.
The Series
Troy owns a 9-4-1 edge in the all-time series with the Ragin' Cajuns. Louisiana dropped a hard-fought 3-2 overtime contest against the Trojans a year ago at home. The Cajuns claimed a 3-2 win in their last trip to Troy in 2016. Six of the last seven contests in the series have been decided by one goal or less.
Scouting Troy
Troy (1-6-1) is winless in its seven matches coming off of a 5-0 defeat at Alabama last Sunday. The Trojans are led by senior Natalie Melillo who has a goal and two assists on the season. Defensively, Troy is allowing almost three goals per game through eight contests.
