Red Wolves Defeat Cajuns 10-4 In Series Opener

The Red Wolves (11-12, 3-6 Sun Belt) outhit the Cajuns (13-10, 5-4 Sun Belt) 11-6 in the contest led by Ty White who was 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Junior shortstop Blake Trahan extended his hit streak to 14 games going 1-for-3 at the plate and scored a run. Trahan reached base three times on the night as he was hit by a pitch and drew a walk.
Tyler Zuber (3-2) earned the victory for ASU allowing three runs on five hits in six innings with three strikeouts and three walks. Colton Kibler notched his third save of the year throwing three innings in relief holding the Cajuns to one run on one hit to close out the game.
Ragin' Cajuns starter Gunner Leger was tagged with his first loss of the season falling to 3-1 after surrendering four runs on five hits with a walk and three strikeouts in five innings.
The Cajuns took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third on a sac fly to right by Greg Davis scoring Dylan Butler from third.
In the top of the fourth, Joe Schrimpf doubled down the left field line with two outs to score two and put the Red Wolves in front 2-1.
Brian Mills evened the contest at 2-all in the bottom of the fourth as he drove his first career home run over the fence in left to lead off the inning.
Arkansas State regained the advantage 4-2 in the top of the fifth scoring two runs on an RBI single by Zach George and a ground ball hit to second by Stuart Levy.
Louisiana pulled within a run in the bottom half of the fifth as Trahan scored from third on a ball hit to second by Davis with runners on the corners.
Matt Burguess made the score 6-3 Arkansas State in the top of the seventh as he launched a solo home run over the fence in right.
The Red Wolves tacked on two more runs in the top of the eight to increase their advantage to 7-3.
Stefan Trosclair drove in the final run of the evening for the Cajuns in the bottom half of the eighth doubling to the gap in left center to score Nick Thurman from first.
ASU added three runs in the ninth on three hits and a Ragin' Cajuns error to make the final 10-4.
The two teams return to action tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the second game of the series. Louisiana is scheduled to start senior right-hander Greg Milhorn, while the Red Wolves will counter with left-hander Jon Glidewell.
