Right-hander led SBC in ERA, WHIP in lone season with Cajuns

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns right-handed pitcher Cody Brasch was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the eighth round of the 2026 MLB Draft on Sunday, becoming the 125th player in program history to be chosen in the MLB Draft.

Brasch was the No. 238 overall selection and became the sixth player in school history drafted by the Giants. The Haslet, Texas native became the first Ragin' Cajun player selected by San Francisco since right-hander Reagan Bazar was chosen in 2016.

After transferring to Louisiana for the 2026 season, Brasch quickly established himself as one of the Sun Belt Conference's premier pitchers. He opened the year as a reliever before moving into the Friday night starter role, where he anchored the Cajuns' rotation throughout conference play.

The right-hander finished 6-3 with six saves while leading the Sun Belt in both ERA (2.77) and WHIP (0.99). He struck out 82 batters in 74.2 innings and limited opposing hitters throughout the season, helping Louisiana earn an NCAA Regional berth for the third time in four seasons.

Brasch's breakout campaign earned him second-team All-Sun Belt Conference honors, ABCA All-South Region recognition, first-team All-Louisiana accolades and Louisiana Newcomer of the Year honors.
