RUSTON, La. – A goal by Louisiana Tech's Kathryn Sloan in the 27th minute was enough for the Lady Techsters on their home turf Friday night as the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns soccer team was held scoreless for just the second time this season in a 2-0 defeat.

Louisiana Tech held a 12-5 shot advantage in the match as goalie Kylee Seto (4-0-1) earned the win for the Lady Techsters with two saves, while redshirt freshman goalkeeper Alexias Stricklin (3-3) received the loss for Louisiana, allowing two goals and picking up four saves.

The Lady Techsters (6-0-1) put their first shot on goal in the 15th minute as Brittany Beddow lifted one between the posts only to have her shot saved by Stricklin. In the 16th minute, sophomore forward Yazmin Montoya took Louisiana's first shot of the contest, sending the ball wide left before sophomore midfielder Lindsay Brammer put a shot on target in the 21st minute, but had it snatched up by Seto.

In the 27th minute, Sloan dribbled around the Louisiana (3-3) defense and fired from 20 yards out to find the far right corner of the net to give Louisiana Tech a 1-0 lead. The Ragin' Cajuns were held without a shot the rest of the first period as the Lady Techsters took a 1-0 advantage into the break.

"We played really well the first half, and if we put away our created opportunities early we could have gained momentum and the outcome could have been different," said head coach Scot Wieland. "You have to capitalize on those chances when you're on the road against a quality opponent. Overall, we did a lot of good things though, and the objective is to continue progressing towards conference play. Even though we didn't get the result we wanted, we improved as a team."

The Lady Techsters struck early in the second half as Beddow was fouled in the box to set up a penalty kick in the 54th minute. Beddow answered for Louisiana Tech with a score, her second penalty kick of the season, to extend the lead to 2-0 for the Lady Techsters.

In the 65th minute, the Cajuns looked to cut into their deficit as Montoya and sophomore midfielder Natalie Newman attempted to get the Louisiana offense going. Montoya's shot attempt was blocked while Newman put one on target. However, Seto kept the Ragin' Cajuns off the board with her second save of the match.

Louisiana was held to just one shot the remainder of the contest with an attempt from sophomore midfielder Kimberly Grasso.

Montoya led the Cajuns with two shots on the night, while Beddow, Anne Armstrong and Jenny Bitzer paced the Lady Techsters with two shots apiece.

Louisiana begins a five-match homestand Sunday when the Ragin' Cajuns welcome Lamar for a 1 p.m. contest at the Cajuns Soccer Complex. General admission is $5 and free for UL students with a valid student ID.
