Cajuns Take on Prairie View and MVSU over the Weekend

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns will finish up a surprise eight-game homestand with matches against Prairie View A&M and Mississippi Valley State on Friday and Sunday at the Cajuns Soccer Complex.

Prairie View comes to town on Friday for a 7 p.m. match with the Cajuns and MVSU shows up on Sunday for a 1 p.m. matinee.

The eight straight matches at home mark the longest homestand in program history, passing up a six-match homestand in 2005.

The Cajuns have seen good success against this weekends opponents, going 5-0 in a combined history with Prairie View and MVSU, while not allowing a goal in the process. The Cajuns have defeated Prairie View A&M by scores of 3-0 and 4-0 dating back to September 2011, and defeated MVSU by score of 2-0, 4-0 and 3-0 dating back to September 2004.

Freshmen have been a highlight for the Cajuns in the early portion of the season. Combined, the freshmen have posted seven goals and six assists for 20 points, highlighted by Annika Schmidt's four goals and one assist for a team-high nine points. As a team, the Cajuns have 11 goals and 10 assists for 32 points.

The weekend will consist of more than just soccer at the matches. Friday night is "Empty the Residence Halls" night with a penalty kick competition at halftime. Sunday is "Ice Cream Sunday" with free ice cream from Blue Bell for the first 250 people in attendance.

Louisiana will finish up the weekend and take to the road for the first time since August 23, and just the second time this season, when it travels to the University of Houston on Friday, Sept. 20th. That leads to the Sun Belt Conference opener on Sept. 27^th, when the Ragin' Cajuns travel to Atlanta, Ga. to take on conference newcomer, Georgia State.
