Louisiana Gets Back On Track With 5-0 Shutout of Troy

Cajuns improve to 4-0-1 in last five outings; defeats Trojans for sixth time in last seven meetings
LAFAYETTE – Salma Elhaimer and Liv Harding each scored a goal and added an assist while Miku Kurihara became the fourth player in program history to score 10 goals in a season as the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns earned a 5-0 Sun Belt Conference victory over Troy on Sunday at the Home Bank Soccer and Track Complex.
Maiya Clark and Maria Reyes each added second-half goals while Chloe Mueller and Lily Parker each added assists as Louisiana (8-2-2, 2-0-1 SBC) rebounded from a scoreless draw at Old Dominion and improved to 4-0-1 over its last five matches. The win over Troy (1-8-2, 0-3-0 SBC) was the Cajuns' third straight in the all-time series – all by shutout – and their sixth victory in the last seven meetings.
Kurihara, the SBC leader in goals scored, broke open a scoreless contest late in the 30th minute after taking a feed from Harding and scoring past Troy goalkeeper Taylor Richards into the lower left corner of the goal.
The goal by Kurihara was the 17th of her career, moving her into a tie for sixth place in program history, while joining Yazmin Montoya (2013), Annika Schmidt (2013) and Stacy Smith (2002) as the only players to score 10 or more goals in a season.
Harding would score her second goal of the year in the 39th minute when she collected a deflection in the box and found the upper right corner of the net and giving Louisiana a 2-0 lead at the break.
Elhaimer added her second goal of the season late in the 49th minute after taking a long feed from Mueller and finding the lower left corner of the net for a 3-0 advantage.
Clark and Elhaimer would team up on Louisiana's fourth goal of the match when Clark's shot in the 60th minute caromed off Richards and rolled into the lower right corner. The Cajuns closed out the scoring in the 86th minute as Reyes collected a rebound off a shot in the box by Parker and scored her third goal of the season.
Louisiana had a 16-6 advantage in shots and placed nine shots on-goal. Twelve of Louisiana's 19 position players who played recorded at least one shot with Harding, Clark, Sydney Byrnes and Carson Glenn each attempting twice.
Louisiana will return to action on Saturday (October 3) when it travels to Hattiesburg, Miss., to face Southern Miss in a noon start. The Ragin' Cajuns will return home on Thursday, October 10, when they host SBC rival South Alabama in a 7 p.m. contest.
