Louisiana Uses Big Innings To Claim Series Win at App State, 12-3

Ragin' Cajuns set to host Coastal Carolina in three-game series beginning on Thursday
Ty Roman (3-4) struck out six batters in 5.2 innings in earning his first victory on the mound since March 24 as Louisiana (32-20, 14-13 SBC) moved into sole possession of sixth place in the SBC standings – one game ahead of Texas State, Old Dominion and Marshall – heading into the final week of the regular season.
Drew Markle had three hits and drove in a pair of runs with a first-inning single with Blaze Rodriguez, Noah Lewis and Maddox Mandino each recording two hits in Louisiana's 14-hit attack.
Galt, in his third start of the season, picked up the first of two hits on the day when he drilled a 2-and-2 pitch from App State starter Tyler Nolan (4-1) over the left field wall for his first collegiate home run to lead off the second inning. Bunt singles by Mandino and Rodriguez chased Nolan for reliever Everette Harris, who would allow Amedee's fourth homer of the season with an opposite-field blast just inside the left-field foul pole and a 6-0 lead.
After the Mountaineers cut the deficit to 6-2 after three innings, the Ragin' Cajuns responded in the fourth, erupting for six runs to take a 12-2 lead.
Amedee reached on a bases-loaded walk before Colt Brown followed with a two-run single up the middle. Donovan LaSalle followed two batters later with an RBI single through the left side, Steven Spalitta later drew a bases-loaded walk and Markle scored from third on a passed ball as Louisiana used five hits in the inning.
Sawyer Pruitt replaced Roman in the sixth inning before Tyler Papenbrock held App State (29-20, 16-11) scoreless over the final 2.1 innings with a strikeout.
Nolan took the loss for the Mountaineers after surrendering five runs on five hits in 1.0 innings before being lifted after the first three UL batters reached in the second inning. Reyn Watson – the fourth of eight pitchers used by the Mountaineers – was the most effective striking out five of the nine batters he faced and allowing one hit in 2.0 innings of work.
Riley Luft went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer for App State, which had a streak of five straight SBC series wins snapped. Ethan Puig and Kameron Miller had two hits each for the Mountaineers, who came into the game leading the SBC in hitting (.316).
Louisiana will close out the regular season beginning on Thursday when it hosts league leader and 2025 national runner-up Coastal Carolina (34-17, 20-7 SBC) in a three-game series at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park. Game times are set for 6 p.m. (Thursday/Friday) and 2 p.m. (Saturday).
