Ragin' Cajuns open second half of SBC slate against Trojans
TROY, Ala. – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Baseball opens the second half of its 30-game Sun Belt Conference schedule beginning on Friday when it travels east to face Troy in a three-game series at Riddle-Pace Field.
First pitch for Friday's opener is set for 6 p.m. The series continues on Saturday at 3:30 p.m., with the series finale set for Sunday at 1 p.m. All three games will be available on ESPN+ with fans able to listen locally on KPEL-FM (96.5) and worldwide on the Varsity Network app.
Louisiana (21-15, 6-9 SBC) is one of 10 teams mired in a logjam that separates third from 12th place in the league standings by two games. The Ragin' Cajuns closed out the first half of their league schedule taking the final two games of a three-game series last weekend against No. 10 Southern Miss.
The visit to Troy (18-19, 8-7 SBC) marks the first of back-to-back weekends on the road for Louisiana, which will face Arkansas State next weekend (April 24-26) in Jonesboro, Ark.
First baseman Lee Amedee has continued to lead Louisiana at the plate with a .339 average and 22 RBI. Colt Brown (.281-1-18), Rigoberto Hernandez (.275-3-19), Steven Spalitta (.269-3-19) and Noah Lewis (.262-0-3) follow Amedee in hitting for the Ragin' Cajuns.
Right-hander Cody Brasch (3-2, 2.18 ERA) will make his second career start on the mound for Louisiana in Friday's opener with Andrew Herrmann (4-2, 3.68 ERA) – the Division I leader with three complete games – scheduled to start on Saturday.
Troy earned a series win last weekend at Texas State, capped by a double-header sweep on Saturday after being walked off by the Bobcats in the opener. The Trojans capped their four-game road swing on Tuesday at New Orleans, where they dropped an 11-10 contest in extra innings.
Jimmy Janicki (.340-10-48) is the top hitter for the Trojans, who are eighth in the SBC in team batting average (.282). Josh Pyne – the NCAA active leader in hits (269) and doubles (73) – follows closely at .338 with four home runs and 22 RBI with Drew Nelson (.328-1-19) next.
