Veal, Sakaguchi climb to No. 2 on all-time marks in respective events

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Louisiana men's 4x100-meter relay team of Zakhy Munro, Mark Daley, Caemon Scott and Camren Hardy tied a school record with a first-place time of 39.91 seconds Friday as the Ragin' Cajuns wrapped up competition at the Crimson Tide Invitational at Sam Bailey Stadium.

Alaysha Veal (women's high jump) and Jasmine Sakaguchi (women's pole vault) each recorded the second-best marks in program history in their respective events, while Kimola Hines became the sixth athlete in school history to surpass the 50-meter mark in the women's discus.

Louisiana matched the school record in the 4x100 relay, previously set in 2024 at the Auburn Invitational by Trejun Jones, Munro, Floyd Pond and Jahmad Booth. The Cajuns' winning time is the fastest among Sun Belt Conference teams this outdoor season and ranks 17th nationally.

Veal placed second overall in the high jump with a mark of 5-10.75 (1.80m), moving into No. 2 in program history. Sakaguchi cleared 12-10.75 (3.93m), trailing only All-American and 2020 Olympian Morgann Leleux on Louisiana's all-time list.

Shenell Tucker recorded the seventh-fastest time in school history in the women's 400-meter hurdles (59.68) to finish third overall. Teammate Twyshanna Huie placed sixth in the event (1:00.96).

Hines earned a third-place finish in the women's discus with a throw of 164-7 (50.16m), the sixth-best mark in program history. Reem Tammam set a personal record in the women's triple jump, finishing third overall with a mark of 41-3.75 (12.59m), while Daijah Miller placed fourth with a jump of 40-0 (12.19m).

Hardy added two top-10 finishes, placing second in the 100-meter dash (10.42) and ninth in the 200 meters (20.99). Daley finished sixth in the 200 meters (20.80), posting the second-fastest time in the Sun Belt this season.

Louisiana placed two athletes in the top three in the men's shot put. Devonte Edwards finished second with a throw of 59-6.75 (18.15m) on his third attempt, while Praiyer Jones recorded the same mark on his sixth and final throw to finish third. The duo moved into third and fourth, respectively, on the program's all-time list.

Louisiana returns to action April 25 at the LSU Alumni Gold meet at Bernie Moore Track Stadium in Baton Rouge.
