Cajuns pick up three first-place finishes; several top-10 marks in record book

BATON ROUGE – Louisiana Track and Field delivered a strong all-around performance Saturday at the LSU Alumni Gold meet at Bernie Moore Track Stadium, highlighted by three individual victories and several top-10 marks in program history.

Louisiana's distance group paced the effort, led by junior Isabelle Russell, who claimed the women's 1,500 meters title in 4:27.69 – the second-fastest time in program history. Teammate Ella Segura recorded the third-best time in school history as she finished second in 4:29.34, while Juliana Courville placed sixth (4:36.60) and Angelle Dupuis added a ninth-place finish (4:38.39) as the Ragin' Cajuns controlled the race.

On the men's side, Louisiana secured a pair of victories in the middle-distance events. Joshua Quintana captured the 800 meters title with a time of 1:50.07, while Matthew Maynard earned top honors in the 1,500 meters, crossing the line in 3:54.65. Peyton Bourgeois added a third-place finish in the 3,000 meters (8:54.04).

Elsewhere on the track, freshman Madison Bailey led Louisiana in the women's 800 meters with a seventh-place finish (2:10.16) overall and fourth-fastest in school history, while Spencer Frierson placed fifth in the women's 3,000 meters (10:43.43).

The Cajuns' women's 4x100-meter relay team of Jakyra Edwards, Tijuanique Morton, Quincy Simon and Chaniqua Tonge finished sixth in 45.83. Individually, Morton paced Louisiana in the 200 meters (24.40), followed by Tonge (24.70).

In the hurdles, Shenell Tucker placed seventh in the 400-meter hurdles with the fifth-best time in program history (58.97), with Twyshanna Huie finishing ninth (59.39) and the seventh-fastest time. On the men's side, Kobe Mendez recorded an eighth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles (14.41).

Mark Daley led Louisiana in the men's sprints with his sixth-place finish in the 200 meters (20.64) marking the third-best time in school history, and also helped the men's 4x100-meter relay team – along with Zakhy Munro, Christopher Gravois and Mekhi Boutte – to a third-place finish in 39.83.

In the field events, Reem Tammam posted a pair of strong finishes, placing sixth in the long jump (19-8/5.99m) and third in the triple jump (40-3.50/12.28m). Kimola Hines became the second female athlete to eclipse the 180-foot mark in the discus as her third-place (180-4/54.96m) was the best since Jo Jo Harris' school-record (180-11) throw in 1994. Laila Guy finished 12th in the shot put (41-1.75/12.54m).

On the men's side, Praiyer Jones (57-5.75/17.52m) and Devonte Edwards (57-5/17.50m) finished second and third, respectively, in the shot put to set personal-bests. William Howard added a seventh-place finish in the javelin (189-1).

Emma Bacilla rounded out Louisiana's top performers with an eighth-place finish in the women's javelin (40.97m).
