Cajuns Battle Early, Fall to Arkansas State in Home Finale

2/21/2026 7:49:00 PM | Women's Basketball

Red Wolves use perimeter shooting to separate and maintain distance

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Basketball team stayed in step with Arkansas State in the early minutes until the visiting Red Wolves heated up from three-point range in the second quarter and pulled away for a 92-66 victory on Saturday, February 21 at the Cajundome.

The Ragin' Cajuns (4-24, 2-15 SBC) disrupted the Red Wolves offensive flow much of the first quarter, ASU missing its first six shots and starting 2-for-11, and the two sides were deadlocked at 5-all seven minutes in.

ASU (22-7, 13-3 SBC) claimed the lead with a three-point make from Mia Tarver at 2:27. Louisiana answered back when Bianca Silva curled around the ASU defense for a jumper at 1:13 trimming the ASU lead to 8-7.

Arkansas State finished the final minute the first quarter on a 7-0 run to increase its advantage to 15-7 – two triples during the run a glimpse of what was to come. The Red Wolves would connect on eight 3-pointers in the second quarter, turning a single-digit margin into a commanding halftime lead.

The Ragin' Cajuns were working their way back within single digits when a Mikaylah Manley three-point play at 4:31 of the second made it 29-18, but the Red Wolves responded with an 11-0 run, jumpstarted by three straight triples, to stretch the margin to 40-18.

A personal five-point run by Amijah Price in the closing minute of the first half sliced the ASU lead to 44-25 and ignited a spark in the Ragin' Cajuns offense.

Louisiana continued to fight back coming out of the halftime break, scoring 28 points in the third quarter. Imani Daniel and Stephanie Mosley combined for 14 of those points in the period, the duo accounting for the first six points with Daniel's layup at 8:08 lowering the ASU lead to 46-31.

Tarver answered 3-point makes on each of ASU's next two possessions over the next 30 seconds moving the lead to 52-33 to halt the Cajuns' momentum.

UL shot 68.8 percent (11-for-16) in the third quarter but ASU had a similar efficient effort (10-of-17) and the visitors carried a 74-53 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Red Wolves led by as many as 31 points down the stretch, expanding the lead as the Ragin' Cajuns misfired on their first 10 attempts of the fourth quarter.

ASU completed the season series sweep and extended its series win streak to four games. Saturday's contest marked the 85th meeting all-time between the two programs.
