Louisiana trims deficit twice in the second half after ULM builds commanding first-half lead
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Basketball team battled throughout the afternoon and trimmed a large first-half deficit, but the early surge by ULM proved decisive in a 79-63 loss on Wednesday, March 4 in the second round of the 2026 Visit Pensacola Sun Belt Women's Basketball Championship tournament at the Pensacola Bay Center.
The loss eliminated the Ragin' Cajuns from the SBC Championship tournament and brought a close to the team's 2025-26 season.
Louisiana (5-26) shook off an early deficit after ULM (15-15) opened the game on a 9-0 run. The Ragin' Cajuns settled in midway through the first quarter, finding offense through Imani Daniel and Mikaylah Manley as they began to chip away at the margin, closing within 17-7 after one.
Stephanie Mosley scored the first points of the second quarter, making it 17-9. ULM, though, answered with the game's decisive stretch, using a 14-0 run fueled by three-pointers and second-chance opportunities to push the lead beyond 20 points.
The Warhawks threatened to run away for good, stretching the lead to 39-11 but the Ragin' Cajuns showed resilience late in the opening half with a 10-0 run. Manley led the charge with eight points during the rally, capping off the stretch with a fastbreak layup at 1:05 that sliced the deficit to 39-21.
The Ragin' Cajuns carried that energy into the third quarter, shooting more efficiently and scoring 23 points in the period while cutting into a 20-point halftime gap.
Inside of the seven-minute mark, Daniel scored a pair of layups and Amijah Price followed with one of her own after a Bianca Silva steal to finish off a 7-0 spurt that trimmed the deficit to 49-35 by the 5:44 mark.
As they did throughout the contest, the Warhawks found a push to widen the gap far enough to keep the Ragin' Cajuns scuffling. ULM made six of its next nine shot attempts during a 14-6 run that stretched the lead back over 20 points at 63-41 prior to the third quarter expiring.
Louisiana later continued to apply pressure as Daniel knocked down a jumper and Sliva added another score that sliced ULM's advantage to 67-53 three minutes into the fourth quarter.
Despite the push, ULM maintained a double-digit cushion the rest of the way.
Manley led Louisiana with 18 points, while Daniel added 17 points and seven rebounds. Amijah Price contributed 12 points and Lily Ba chipped in six points off the bench.
The Ragin' Cajuns finished the game shooting 40 percent (23-of-57) and forced 22 turnovers while scoring 29 points off those miscues.
ULM was paced by Marcavia Shavers' 21 points and 13 rebounds. Jazmine Jackson added 17 points, including three second-quarter three-pointers, and J'Mani Ingram finished with 16 points as the Warhawks shot 47 percent (30-of-64) from the field.
