Mosley’s late threes fuel rally, but Panthers seal win at the line
ATLANTA – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Basketball team battled to the final horn on Friday, February 27 in Atlanta, but Georgia State used a pivotal fourth-quarter surge and steady free throw shooting to hold on for a 74-68 win at the GSU Convocation Center in the 2025-26 regular season finale.
Louisiana (4-25, 2-16 SBC) erased a second-half deficit and pulled even at 50-all early in the fourth quarter, setting the stage for a dramatic finish. However, Georgia State (10-20, 5-13 SBC) responded with a decisive 14-0 run midway through the period, stretching its lead to double digits, 64-50, with 4:46 remaining, seizing control for good.
The Ragin' Cajuns refused to go quietly. Stephanie Mosley provided a late spark, knocking down a pair of clutch 3-pointers in the closing minutes to draw Louisiana closer. It was a stepback triple from Mosely at 1:13 that made it a two-possession game at 68-62.
Additional baskets delivered by Imani Daniel and Mikaylah Manley trimmed the deficit to 71-66 in the final stretch, but the Panthers converted 12-of-14 free throws in the fourth quarter to fend off the rally and seal the win at the line.
Mosley finished with a team-high tying 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting, including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. Daniel and Manley added 16 points apiece, with Manley posting a double-double behind 10 rebounds.
Louisiana outscored Georgia State 44-20 in the paint and held a 50-33 edge on the glass, but the Panthers' 11 made 3-pointers and late free throw execution proved to be the difference.
The Panthers snapped the Ragin' Cajuns three-game win streak in the series, collecting only their fifth win in 18 tries. It was the Ragin' Cajuns first-ever appearance in the GSU Convocation Center and the first matchup with GSU in Atlanta since January 2020.
Friday's contest was a potential preview of a first round game in the upcoming SBC Championship Tournament in Pensacola. Both the Ragin' Cajuns and Panthers entered the day locked into the tournament's opening-round pod on Tuesday, March 3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Louisiana weathered an early 20-15 first-quarter deficit behind strong interior play from Daniel and Manley, who combined for 10 points in the opening frame.
The Ragin' Cajuns tightened defensively in the second quarter, holding Georgia State to just 3-of-15 shooting and trimming the margin to 28-27 at halftime after Mosely completed a four-point play and Daniel converted a pair of free throws over the final three minutes.
In the third, GSU stretched its lead to 45-33 through the period following back-to-back 3-pointers, but UL responded with composure. Kahlen Norris buried a triple from the wing and Manley converted in transition to spark a 7-1 push that cut the deficit to 46-42. Lily Ba added a late bucket in the paint to make it 48-44 entering the fourth.
Louisiana carried that momentum into the final period. Amijah Price opened the quarter with a turnaround jumper before Mosley attacked the rim for consecutive layups, tying the game at 50-all with just under eight minutes remaining.
Georgia State, though, answered with the critical 14-0 run for final separation, but had to fend off one more charge from the Ragin' Cajuns to collect the victory.
