Ragin' Cajuns win third straight in walk-off fashion over Big 10 Terrapins
LAFAYETTE – Blaze Rodriguez drew a bases-loaded walk to cap a four-run, ninth-inning rally as the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns defeated Maryland, 7-6, before an announced crowd of 4,020 on Friday at M. L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park.

Trailing 6-3, Griffin Hebert and Lee Amadee led off the ninth with back-to-back walks for Louisiana (3-2) off Maryland reliever Christofer Cespedes (0-1).

Rigoberto Hernandez then lifted an opposite-field single to left to load the bases before Trip Dobson, making his first appearance since suffering a knee injury early last year, delivered a pinch-hit single through the left side to make the score 6-4.

Jayson Torres entered the game for Maryland (3-2) and promptly hit pinch-hitter Owen Galt to score Amadee before Maddox Mandino walked to score Hernandez, tying the game at 6. Ryan Bailey followed Torres, and after falling behind 0-and-2, Rodriguez worked the count full before taking a pitch low and allowing pinch-runner Mark Collins to score the game winner.

Tyler Papenbrock (1-0), the fourth pitcher for the Cajuns, earned his first Division I win after throwing 1.2 scoreless innings. Cespedes (0-1), who garnered a save in a victory over UNC Wilmington last weekend, took the loss.

Maryland took a 3-0 lead in the third inning off Louisiana starter Ty Roman when Brayden Martin singled and moved to second on a walk to Ty Kaunas. After Jordan Crosland struck out, LSU transfer Ryan Costello belted a homer to right for the game's first runs.

The Terrapins increased their lead to 4-0 in the fourth on a solo shot by David Mendez. Roman exited after 5.0 innings, allowing four runs on six hits, with a walk, and five strikeouts.

Louisiana started its comeback against starter Lance Williams in the fifth. Amadee singled with one out and went to third on Hernandez's double to right center. Drew Markle walked to load the bases, and pinch-hitter Josh Lim drove in Amadee with a groundout.

Williams was lifted after pitching 4.2 innings, allowing one run on five hits with a walk and five strikeouts before Cespedes came on to get Mandino to ground out to end the inning.
The Cajuns closed to within 4-3 in the sixth when Steven Spalitta singled up the middle with one out and went to second on a wild pitch. Colt Brown then drove in Spalitta with a single to left and reached second on an error. Hebert's single scored Brown to get the Cajuns to within a run.

But the Terps got the two runs right back when freshman Hayden Pearson walked Antonio Morales after pitching a scoreless sixth. Garret Carter relieved Pearson and gave up a single to David Mendez. After Brayden Martin flied out, a wild pitch moved the runners into scoring position before pinch-hitter Paul Jones laced a two-out double to center to score both runners and giving the Terps a 6-3 lead.

Spalitta and Hernandez each had a pair of hits to pace Louisiana's 10-hit attack. Mendez and Martin each had a pair of hits for Maryland, which had eight hits in the contest.
The win was the third all-time for Louisiana in four meetings against Maryland, with all three wins coming in walk-off fashion.

The two teams will tangle again on Saturday with first pitch set for 2 p.m. Senior Andrew Herrmann (0-0, 3.60) will start for Louisiana with Nic Morlang (0-1, 3.00 ERA) slated to pitch for the Terrapins.
