Ragin' Cajuns face Big 10 Terps to open nine-game homestand

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Baseball team opens a stretch of nine consecutive games at home, beginning on Friday when it opens a three-game series against Big 10 opponent Maryland at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park.

The series begins on Friday at 6 p.m. The series continues on Saturday at 2 p.m., with Sunday's finale set for 1. Fans can listen to all three games in the Lafayette area on KPEL-FM (96.5) and worldwide on the Varsity Network app.

Friday's opener and Sunday's finale will each be televised on ESPN+ with Dan McDonald (pxp) and Brennan Breaux (color) providing commentary.

Louisiana (2-2) faces its second consecutive Big 10 opponent during the second weekend of the year after taking two of three last season from Nebraska. The weekend series with Maryland (3-1) is the second between the schools with Louisiana taking two of three in 2019.

The Ragin' Cajuns opened their road schedule on Tuesday, posting a 3-0 shutout at Rice. Sawyer Pruitt, in a determined start, pitched 4.0 innings to earn his first collegiate victory and combined with five relievers on a five-hitter.

Ty Roman (0-1, 3.60 ERA) will start in Friday's opener for Louisiana with Andrew Herrmann (0-0, 3.60 ERA) expected to start on Saturday. Right-hander JR Tollett (1-0, 9.00 ERA) will take the mound in Sunday's finale.

Maryland (3-1) opened the season taking two of three games at UNC Wilmington before blasting Georgetown in its home opener, 16-3.

The Terps totaled 14 hits against the Hoyas with seven for extra bases. Antonio Morales and Ryan Costello each homered for Maryland with Brayden Martin continued his booming start to the season with a three-hit performance.

Right-hander Lance Williams (1-0, 1.80 ERA) will start in Friday's opener for the Terps with Nic Morlang (0-1, 3.00 ERA) scheduled for Saturday and Jake Yeager (0-0, 2.25 ERA) on Sunday.
