Louisiana heads to Houston for final tuneup before SBC Indoors

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team makes its final tuneup before the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships when it travels west to Houston to compete in the Howie Ryan Invitational on Friday at Yeoman Fieldhouse.
 
Field events begin at 10 a.m., with running events set to start at noon. Fans can follow the results through live stats or through YouTube.
 
Joining Louisiana and host Houston in the field are: Houston Christian, Huston-Tillotson, Lamar, McNeese State, Ouachita Baptist, Our Lady of the Lake, Rice, Stephen F. Austin, St. Thomas, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas A&M -Kingsville, Texas A&M -Texarkana, Texas Southern and Trinity.
 
Louisiana, which will compete in the SBC Indoor Championships on February 23-24 in Birmingham, Ala., looks to improve on individual events heading into the championship meet and NCAA Indoor Championships.
 
Alaysha Veal leads all Sun Belt athletes and is 16th nationally in the women's high jump after clearing a school-record 6-0 at the Dr. Rick McGuire Invitational last month. Lily Murray enters the meet ranked second in the SBC and 44th nationally in the women's weight throw after posting a school-record mark of 64-7 ¼ on January 16.
 
Sprinter Camren Hardy is ranked second in the SBC in the men's 60-meter dash and third in the 200 meters for Louisiana with Caemon Scott ranked second in the men's 400 meters. Henry Lyon set a school record in the men's 3,000 meters to lead the Sun Belt and ranks third overall in the 1-mile run (4:07.53).
 
Reem Tammam looks to improve on the SBC's top mark in the women's triple jump (41-3 ¾) with Isabelle Russell ranked second in the SBC in the women's 3,000 meters (9:35.63).
