Records Fall As Louisiana Wraps Up Historic Meet at Mizzou

Ragin' Cajuns post 14 top-five marks in two-day meet at Hearnes Center
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Louisiana's Alaysha Veal became the program's first female track and field athlete to clear 6 feet in the women's high jump, while Henry Lyon broke a 43-year-old school record in the men's 3,000 meters as the Ragin' Cajuns set three indoor school records Saturday at the Dr. Rick McGuire Invitational at the Hearnes Center.

Isabelle Russell added another record for Louisiana in the women's 3,000 meters as the Ragin' Cajuns set four school records over the two-day meet, which opened Friday with a record-setting performance by the women's distance medley relay team.

Hosted by SEC member Missouri, the meet saw Louisiana post 14 top-five performances in program history.

Veal became the 16th Division I athlete this season to clear 6 feet in the high jump, accomplishing the feat on her second attempt. The mark broke her own school record of 5 feet, 9Âľ inches set last season.

Lyon led Louisiana to a record-breaking 1-2-3 finish in the men's 3,000 meters. His time of 8:01.28 eclipsed the previous school record of 8:02.08 set by Ian Wilkinson in 1983. Matthew Maynard (8:16.68) and Jackson Jarrett (8:20.26) recorded the third- and fourth-fastest times in school history in the event.

An East Carolina transfer, Lyon also anchored the distance medley relay team that posted a time of 9:45.47, the second-fastest mark in program history.

Russell, the school-record holder in the women's 5,000 meters, clocked a time of 9:35.63 to break the 3,000-meter record, surpassing teammate and former record holder Ella Segura (9:42.59).

Reem Tammam led a 1-2 finish for Louisiana in the women's long jump alongside Daijah Miller. Tammam's mark of 41 feet, 3¾ inches ranked fourth in school history. Jasmine Sakaguchi cleared 12-7½ in the women's pole vault to post the fourth-best mark in school history, while school-record holder Lily Murray cleared 64-0½ in the weight throw for the second time this season.

The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Twyshanna Huie, Quincy Simon, Madison Bailey and Hannah Boullion posted a time of 3:46.57, the fourth-fastest mark in school history. Amairi Ashford added the sixth-fastest time in school history in the 60 meters (7.54).

On the men's side, Camren Hardy clocked a 6.74 in the 60 meters, the sixth-fastest time in program history, while Caemon Scott posted the fourth-fastest mark in the 400 meters (47.59).

The men's 4x400-meter relay team of Mark Daley, Hardy, Mekhi Boutte and Hunter Ullrich claimed the event with a time of 3:12.11, the fifth-best mark in school history.

Louisiana returns to action Feb. 13 when it travels to Houston to compete in the Howie Ryan Invitational at Yeoman Fieldhouse.
