Ragin' Cajuns claim five events in season opener

BATON ROUGE – Lily Murray set a school record in the women's weight throw and Louisiana added four more event titles as the Ragin' Cajuns opened the 2026 indoor season Friday at the LSU Purple Tiger meet at Carl Maddox Fieldhouse.

Murray won the weight throw with a mark of 64 feet, 7 1/4 inches, breaking her own school record of 64-1 set last season. The throw ranks No. 21 nationally and highlighted a 1-2 finish for Louisiana, with Kimola Hines placing second at 55-0.

Louisiana also swept the top three spots in both the men's and women's 1-mile run. Henry Lyon led the men's field with a winning time of 4:10.68, followed by Matthew Maynard (4:12.80) and Jackson Jarrett (4:15.12), both of whom posted personal bests. Josh Quintana (4:26.76) and Mason Haley (personal-best 4:29.29) rounded out the top five as Louisiana claimed the top nine positions overall.

Isabelle Russell paced the women's mile with a personal-best time of 5:00.42. Ella Segura (5:02.33) and Juliana Courville (5:05.77) finished second and third, respectively, completing another Cajun sweep.

Freshman Madison Bailey captured the women's 600 meters in 1:33.79 for her first collegiate victory, while the women's 4x400-meter relay team closed the meet with a win in 3:56.42.

Broderick Davis recorded a pair of top-five finishes for Louisiana, placing second in the men's long jump at 24-5 1/2 and third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.95. Camren Hardy finished third in the men's 60-meter dash (6.85), with Mark Daley placing fifth at 6.92.

Additional runner-up finishes came from Reem Tammam in the women's triple jump (39-10 3/4) and the duo of Lauren Roberts and Jasmine Sakaguchi in the women's pole vault (12-3 1/2).

Alaysha Veal placed third in the women's high jump with a clearance of 5-8, while Courtney Wiltz finished third in the women's long jump (17-10 3/4). Laila Guy added a fourth-place finish in the shot put (44-3 1/4), and Daijah Miller placed fourth in the triple jump (38-5).

Louisiana returns to action at the end of January, sending athletes to the McNeese Indoor II & Multi Meet on Jan. 30, while others will compete at the Dr. Rick McGuire Invitational on Jan. 30–31 in Columbia, Missouri.
