Newcomers Lead Louisiana In Second Round at Argent Financial Classic

Cajuns drop to eighth place heading into Tuesday's final round
CHOUDRANT – Newcomers Ben Blanco and Jay Brooks each recorded a 1-under-par 71, but the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team fell seven spots in the second round to fall into eighth place overall at the Argent Financial Classic on Monday at Squire Creek Country Club.
The final round of the 54-hole event will take place on Tuesday beginning at 8 a.m. Louisiana, which will be paired with host Louisiana Tech and Jacksonville State in the final round, will tee off from the No. 1 tee beginning at 8:10 a.m.

Blanco, playing in his second collegiate round, matched his first-round score after starting 2-over through the first four holes. The freshman, who was tied for 24th at 2-under 142, converted on birdies at both No. 17 and 18 to finish at even-par at the turn before sinking a pair of birdies on the front nine.
Brooks recorded his first round at par or below for Louisiana after opening the event with a 1-over-73 on Sunday. The University of Florida transfer opened the front nine with three straight birdies and moved up nine spots on the leaderboard with a 36-hole score of even-par 144.
First-round leader Malan Potgieter posted a round of 2-over-par 74 to slip into an eighth-place tie (139) after 36 holes and two strokes off the individual lead held by Joshua Hill of South Alabama, Houston's Hudson Weibel and Matthew Javier of Southern Miss.
Freshman James Holtsclaw recorded a 2-over-74 in the second round to fall to 1-over-145 after 36 holes while Carter Schmitt carded a round of 3-over-76 to finish at 5-over-149.
Jean Louis du Plessis, playing as an individual, posted a 3-under-69 to move to 4-under 140 after 36 holes.
South Alabama posted a team score of 9-under-279 to surge into the lead in the 17-team event. The Jaguars finished at 561 after 36 holes with Southern Miss (566) and Rice (566) tied for second. Memphis (567) and Houston (567) were tied for fourth in the field with Western Kentucky (569), Jacksonville State (569) one stroke ahead of Louisiana (570).
