Louisiana Finishes Fourth At Highlands Invitational

Potgieter finishes at 10-under-206 to record second straight top-five finish
WESTCHESTER, Ill. – Malan Potgieter recorded his second top-five finish of the season after his 5-under-par 67 helped him to a third-place finish and led the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team during the final day of the Highlands Invitational hosted by Turtleson on Tuesday at the Chicago Highlands Golf Club.

Louisiana, which was one of six teams remaining on the course when play was suspended on Monday, earned a fourth-place finish in the 13-team event after finishing at 6-over-870 for the 54-hole event. Wake Forest claimed the team title after shooting a 5-under-281 in the final round and 24-under-840 for the event.

Potgieter opened the event on Monday with a 2-under-70 before finishing at 3-under-69 in the second round. The senior recorded three eagles during the two-day event, including twice on the par-5, 573-yard No. 18. Potgieter finished at 10-under-206 for the tournament and seven strokes behind Wake Forest's Jorge Hao, who was competing individually.

Carter Schmitt and freshman Drew Sliman each posted rounds of even-par 72 for Louisiana in the final round with Schmitt finishing tied for 31st at 6-over-222. Jay Brooks, who at even par after the opening day, carded a 6-over-78 to join Schmitt at 222 for the tournament.

Jean Louis du Plessis posted a 4-over-76 in the final round and finished at 231 overall for the Ragin' Cajuns, while newcomer Ellis Bright notched a 2-over-74 to finish at 10-over 226.

Louisiana will return to action for its third event of the fall season on Sept. 29-30, when it heads west to Houston for the Bayou City Collegiate Classic at Westwood Country Club.
