Potgieter, Schmitt in top 10; Cajuns paired with UTA, Abilene Christian in final round
HOUSTON – Malan Potgieter and Carter Schmitt each turned in top-10 finishes, and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team finished in a third-place tie after 36 holes on Monday at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic at Westwood Golf Club.
Louisiana finished in a tie for third place with Lamar in the 14-team field with a team score of 2-under-par 574. The Ragin' Cajuns, who will be paired with UT Arlington and Abilene Christian in Tuesday's final round, will tee off beginning at 8:10 a.m.

Potgieter kept up his solid start to the fall, posting a 3-under-par 69 in the opening round before shooting a 4-under-68 in the second. The senior finished in a tie for third overall at 7-under-137 and four strokes behind first-day leader Grant Doggett of Houston.
Schmitt opened the day with a 1-over-par 73 before shooting a 4-under-68 in the second to finish ninth overall at 3-under-141.
Ben Blanco (71-75-146), James Holtsclaw (72-78-150) and Jay Brooks (76-79-155) rounded out the Ragin' Cajuns lineup with freshman Drew Sliman (72-75-147) finishing sixth among individuals.
Host Rice claimed the first-day lead with a team score of 560 with crosstown foe Houston in second at 562. Louisiana, Lamar, UTA (580) and Abilene Christian (580) rounded out the top five on the par-72, 7,184-yard course.
