Ragin' Cajuns, Vaqueros meet on diamond for first time since 2005
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana closes out a nine-game homestand on Tuesday when it hosts UTRGV in a non-conference game at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park.
First pitch is set for 6 p.m. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ with fans able to listen in the Lafayette area on KPEL-FM (96.5) and worldwide on the Varsity Network app.
The game against UTRGV (21-10) is the first of a five-game week for Louisiana (16-18), which will see the Ragin' Cajuns venture to Ruston to face Louisiana Tech (20-12) on Wednesday. The game against the Bulldogs starts a seven-game roadtrip for Louisiana, which will return to Sun Belt Conference play on Friday at ULM.
Louisiana will send right-hander Blake McGehee (3-3, 7.92 ERA) to the mound against UTRGV, formerly known as UT Pan American and facing the Ragin' Cajuns on the diamond for the first time since 2005.
Owen Galt (.329-0-8), Conor Higgs (.319-10-21) and Caleb Stelly (.293-5-18) lead the Ragin' Cajuns at the plate.
Armani Raygoza (.367-9-38) and Isaac Lopez (.357-4-27) are the top two hitters for the Vaqueros with Jacob Sanchez (.343-6-21) and Cameron Carter (.328-0-12) among a group of seven players hitting .300 or above.
UTRGV will send left-hander Nick Nolan (0-1, 5.73 ERA) to the mound.
