Cajuns Head to Baton Rouge in Final Tune-Up Before SBC Championships

Next for Louisiana is the Sun Belt Conference Championships
BATON ROUGE, Louisiana - Just one meet remains before the Louisiana track and field team heads to the Sun Belt Conference Championships as they compete this Saturday at the LSU Alumni Gold in Baton Rouge.
Last time out, the Cajuns had a strong performance at the Alabama Relays. For their efforts in Alabama, Isabelle Russell and Lawson Jacobs earned SBC Track Athlete of the Week honors. Russell set the school record in the 5000m at 16:43.69 while Jacobs ran a 45.91 in the 400m, which stands as the top mark in the conference.
Juliana Courville had a big day, finishing the 3000S in 11:06.21, the fifth-fastest time in school history, and the 800m in 2:13.30, the eighth-fastest time by a Cajun. Owen Tauzin also entered the record books with a time of 32:05.67 in the 10000m, seventh best in school history. The women's 4x400m relay team of Quincy Simon, Shenell Tucker, Chaniqua Tonge, and Alexandra Johnson moved to ninth in school history after recording a time of 3:46.70.
Louisiana is one of 21 teams scheduled to compete on Saturday, joining host LSU, Athletics Canada, Florida State, Grambling, Hinds CC, Louisiana Tech, McNeese, Memphis, Meridian CC, NC State, Nevada, New Mexico State, New Orleans, Northwestern State, Southeastern, Southern, Southern Miss, Tiger Olympians, ULM, and Utah.
The Cajuns will then head to Harrisonburg, Virginia, for the Sun Belt Conference Championships. The men look to defend their indoor team championship after finishing third in outdoor a year ago, while the women placed second last season. The championships begin on Thursday, May 8.Â
