Louisiana Puts Nine Entries into Record Book in Final Meet Before SBC Championships

Alexandra Johnson broke her own school record in the 800 by two seconds
BATON ROUGE, Louisiana - A strong performance at the LSU Alumni Gold meet in Baton Rouge, the Louisiana track and field team is poised for a strong showing at the upcoming Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships. Louisiana broke a school record and had eight other scores entered into the record book on the day.
Alexandra Johnson once again broke the school record in the 800. The senior's time of 2:06.44 was 2.5 seconds faster than the previous record, held by her, and over three seconds clear of anybody else in school history.
The men's 4x400m relay team also had a historic day with the team of Camren Hardy, Caemon Scott, Jonathan Gamarra, and Lawson Jacobs ran a time of 3:05.18. That moved them into third in school history, the school's fastest time in over 30 years, and put Louisiana in the top 20 in the country in the event. The Cajuns won the event, besting fellow instate schools LSU, Northwestern State, Louisiana Tech, and ULM.
Louden Boudreaux had the other win on the day for Louisiana, finishing the 3000m with a time of 8:45.49, the fifth-fastest time in school history. Reece Shelby also left his mark in the 1500m, with the seventh-fastest time at 3:50.13. The women had three top 10 scores in the 1500m with Ella Segura, 4:32.59 (fourth-fastest), Isabelle Russell, 4:34.34 (sixth-fastest), and Juliana Courville, 4:36.58 (10th-fastest), doing the honors.
The other two top scores in the record book came in men's field events. Oliver Jack improved on his fifth-best hammer throw, raising it to a distance of 189-11/57.90. Praiyer Jones also had the fifth-best throw but in the shot put at 57-4.25/17.48.
Johnson wasn't the only Cajun with a strong performance in the 800m. Not far behind her in fifth place overall was Victoria Datta's 2:15.70. On the men's side, Joe Patterson was third with a time of 1:49.17. In the men's 200m, Louisiana had three finish in the top 10. Mark Daley led the way in fourth at 20.98, followed by Jacobs at 21.13 in sixth and Hardy at 21.33 in 10th.
Three others recorded a top 10 finish in the 3000m following Boudreaux. Fourth was Mason Haley's 8:53.42, Peyton Bourgeois was sixth at 9:19.75, and seventh was John Walker McDonald's 9:24.70.
Rounding out the track events was Kay-Lagay Clarke's sixth-place showing in the 100m hurdles at 13.81. Louisiana finished fifth in the women's 4x100m relay, with Jaala Thymes, Amairi Ashford, Quincy Simon, and Chaniqua Tonge running a time of 45.51. The men's team of Chris Gravois, Daley, Scott, and Jacobs was sixth at 39.71.
Both the men and women had strong days in field events. Kimola Hines was second in the discus at 166-7/50.77. Marin Barras was third in the javelin at 146-9/44.73 and seventh in the hammer at 176-9/53.89. Lily Murray led the Cajuns in the hammer with a throw of 178-11/54.55. Alaysha Veal's high jump of 5-8.5/1.74 was good enough to place fourth, while Reem Tammam was fifth in the long jump at 18-11.75/5.78.
The men saw Jeremy Nelson finish second in the triple jump with a distance of 50-9.25/15.47. Teodor Borgius was third in the pole vault at 16-6.75/5.05. Will Howard, 197-0/60.06, and Jemar Ferguson, 185-8/56.06, finished fifth and sixth in the javelin to finish the day.
Louisiana is set to travel to Harrisonburg, Virginia, for the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships. The three-day event begins May 8 as the men look to sweep the indoor and outdoor titles.
