The Cajuns set a school record and had six other entries in the record book
TUSCALOOSA, Alabama - The Louisiana track and field team set a school record and put six other entries into the program record book on Saturday.
Isabelle Russell shattered her own record in the 5000m, finishing with a time of 16:43.69. Ella Segura became the second fastest Cajun in the event with her time of 16:52.39. That time would've beaten Russell's previous record of 16:52.56.
Juliana Courville had a big day with a pair of entries. She recorded the fifth-fastest 3,000S at 11:06.21 and the eighth-best 800m at 2:13.30. Owen Tauzin finished up redoing the distance records with a time of 32:05.67 in the 10,000m, putting him seventh all-time.
Lawson Jacobs almost broke one of the oldest records in the book, the men's 400m. The freshman's time of 45.91 was just short of Pat Gullet's 45.73 set in 1973, the fourth-oldest outdoor men's record. He also took over the top spot in the Sun Belt Conference by 0.6 seconds as he looks to sweep the 400m in the indoor and outdoor.
The women's 4x400m relay team ended the day with the ninth-fastest time in school history with Quincy Simon, Shenell Tucker, Chaniqua Tonge, and Alexandra Johnson running it in 3:46.70. The men won their 4x400m relay as Jonathan Gamarra, Caemon Scott, Camren Hardy, and Jacobs finished in 3:07.24.
Alaysha Veal matched her personal-best in the outdoor high jump and finished third at 5-8.75/1.75m. In the long jump, Reem Tammam was fourth at 19-4/5.89m while Kay-Lagay Clarke placed third in the triple jump at 40-0.5/12.20m. Teodor Borgius also had a top five finish in the pole vault at 10-10.25/5.15m.
Amairi Ashford posted a fifth-place finish in the 100m at 11.75. She also was part of the 4x100m relay team, along with Jaala Thymes, Simon, and Tonge, that placed fifth at 46.15. Louden Boudreaux was second in the 5,000m at 14:43.65 while Reece Shelby finished third with a time of 14:44.27. John Walker McDonald had a strong showing in the 10,000m, finishing fifth with a time of 33:06.90.
Louisiana is off for a week before heading to Baton Rouge for the LSU Alumni Gold at the end of the month.
