Louisiana Continues Strong Outdoor Season in Texas on Friday

The Ragin’ Cajuns wrap up a busy weekend tomorrow

SAN MARCOS, Texas - The Louisiana track and field team had another strong night between a pair of meets in Texas. The Ragin' Cajuns had four new entries in the record book and eight top-100 scores in the NCAA.

Lawson Jacobs won the 200m at the Bobcat Relays at 20.82. The freshman set a personal-best and moved to 16th in the NCAA and second in the Sun Belt Conference in the event. Mark Daley was right behind him at 20.89, a personal best. Daley is now 25th in the country and third in the conference. Camren Hardy also had a strong performance, taking 10th at 21.33.

Shenell Tucker became the fourth woman in program history to break the minute barrier in the 400m hurdles with her time of 59.42. She moved to sixth in school history, 28th in the nation, and is first in the SBC with that time. 

In the long jump, Reem Tammam moved to second in the SBC and 27th in the nation with her jump of 19-8/5.99m.

In Houston, the Cajuns had a terrific day at the Victor Lopez Invitational. Ella Segura placed third in the 1500m and just missed a PB at 4:33.75. Isabelle Russell finished fourth at 4:37.23 and moved to ninth in the school record book. Juliana Courville also had a strong showing, finishing eighth at 4:43.57.

The women continued in the 3000m steeplechase. Skylar Delgado's 11:02.62 is the third-fastest time in school history and 40th in the country, while Caroline Spalitta's time of 11:33.67 is the eighth-best in school history and 81st in the NCAA. Samantha Ponzo was seventh with a time of 12:14.90.

The men saw Reece Shelby begin the night with a sixth-place showing in the 1500m at 3:58.59. Mason Haley followed that in the 3000m steeplechase with a 9:20.23, the 17th best time in the country, while Peyton Bourgeois ran a 9:52.46, 75th in the NCAA.

RJ Wilson had a strong day in San Marcos, placing sixth in the shot put (50-9.25/15.47m) and seventh in the hammer (181-3/55.26m). Teodor Borgius was ninth in the pole vault at 16-10.75/5.15m. Jasmine Sakaguchi closed the night by matching a season best in the pole vault and finishing seventh at 11-9.75/3.60m.

Louisiana closes the Bobcat Relays tomorrow in San Marcos.
