Louisiana Heads to Texas Looking to Build on Big Performance Last Weekend

The Ragin’ Cajuns won 21 events and set three school records last weekend
SAN MARCOS, Texas - The Louisiana track and field team heads to Texas coming off a huge performance at last weekend's Louisiana Classics. The Ragin' Cajuns will spend three days in San Marcos in the Bobcat Relays, hosted by Texas State, as well as compete Friday night in the Victor Lopez Invitational in Houston, hosted by Rice.
The Cajuns set three school records last weekend. Isabelle Russell shattered the 5000m record at 16:52.56, breaking the previous record of 17:18.19. It was also a Home Bank Soccer and Track Complex record, which was previously set in 2006 by Diana Jipchirchir of New Orleans at 17:04.76.
Lily Murray broke her own program record in the hammer throw, becoming the first Cajun woman to break 190 feet with a throw of 191-8/58.44m. Joe Patterson set his second school record of the year, this time becoming the fastest Cajun in the 1500m at 3:46.29, breaking the record that had stood since 1982.Â
In total, the Cajuns had 12 new entries into the record book along with the 21 victories.Â
Louisiana will compete in a full slate of events in San Marcos starting on Thursday. Friday, the Cajuns will run in the 1500m and the 3000m steeplechase in Houston.
