Louisiana Hopes to Take Home Plenty of Hardware at SBC Indoor Championships

Louisiana has posted 44 top-10 scores in the SBC this season
BIRMINGHAM, Alabama - Coming off a historic performance in Nashville, the Louisiana track and field team looks to crown themselves the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Champions this week in Birmingham, Alabama.Â
Last weekend Louisiana set three program indoor records. Alexandra Johnson became the school's undisputed 800m champion by taking down the indoor record at 2:10.06. The senior enters the event with the second-best time in the conference.
Joe Patterson lowered his own record in the men's 800m. The senior clocked in at 1:48.44 and is the only runner in the conference to break 1:52.00 this season. Lawson Jacobs set the school 400m record with a time of 46.46, which is the top time in the league so far. Lily Murray also set a school record this season in the weight throw. Her throw of 64-1 in January has her fourth heading into the week.Â
Louisiana also holds down the top spot in the league in the men's 4x400m relay. The team of Jonathan Gammara, Caemon Scott, Jarell Joseph, and Jacobs ran a time of 3:09.40, and have a four-second lead over the next closest group. Alaysha Veal comes into the week tied at the top of the women's high jump with a season-best of 5-8.
Other events the Cajuns have an athlete among the top three this season include Mark Daley in the men's 200m, Joseph in the men's 400m, Peyton Chiasson in the men's mile, the women's 4x400m relay team of Kayla Harrison, Moseiha Bridgen, Evalyn Abdmoulaie, and Quincy Simon, Jeremy Nelson in the men's triple jump, Oliver Jack in the men's weight throw, and Federico Bovo in the heptathlon.
