Huskers Take Advantage of Errors in 6-1 Win Over Cajuns

Final two games of series set for 1 p.m. doubleheader
LAFAYETTE – No. 23-ranked Nebraska took advantage of four Louisiana errors to score four unearned runs while starting pitcher Mason McConnaughey pitched 6.0 innings as the Cornhuskers claimed a 6-1 win over the Ragin' Cajuns in the opening game of a three-game series on Friday at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park.

The final two games of the three-game series will be played on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. with the second game slated to begin 30-45 minutes after.
Fans can use their Saturday ticket for both games. Saturday's ticket will grant entry into both games. The stadium will not be cleared in between games, and there will be no reentry. Any single-game tickets for Sunday's game can be redeemed for any remaining regular season baseball game.

With the Krewe of Rio Mardi Gras parade slated for Saturday evening, fans attending the doubleheader should be prepared to exit through Gates 2 through 5 of the Cajun Field Athletic Complex to avoid any congestion from parade traffic.

Nebraska (3-2) recorded three of its nine hits in the first inning after Cayden Brumbaugh hit a leadoff single and moved to third on Dylan Carey's one-out single to center off Louisiana starter Chase Morgan (1-1). After a stolen base by Carey, Case Sanderson then followed with an RBI single to drive in Brumbaugh before Carey scored from third on a throwing error.

Louisiana cut the lead in half in the second inning after Lee Amedee's two-out homer to right-center off McConnaughey (1-1) before the right-hander retired 13 of the next 15 batters he faced with four of his six strikeouts.

The Cornhuskers scored a pair of unearned runs in the fourth inning to stretch their lead to 4-1 on a sacrifice fly by Hogan Helligso and a two-out, infield single by Brumbaugh.

Nebraska plated two more runs in the eighth as Helligso reached on an error, scoring Will Jesske before Carey delivered a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to right.

Brumbaugh led Nebraska at the plate going 3-for-4 with a run scored. Helligso drove in two runs despite going 0-for-3 with Rhett Stokes, Riley Silva and Max Buettenback each recording a hit.

McConnaughey scattered four hits over 6.0 innings for Nebraska before Jalen Worthley and Pryce Bender combined for 3.0 scoreless innings down the stretch.

Amedee and Brooks Wright each went 2-for-3 for Louisiana with Jose Torres adding an eighth-inning single. Morgan took the loss for the Ragin' Cajuns after scattering five hits and four runs (one earned) with six strikeouts in 4.0 innings pitched.
