Cajuns host nationally-ranked Huskers in three-game series at Russo Park
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Baseball team wraps up its season-opening, seven-game homestand beginning Friday when it plays host to No. 23-ranked Nebraska in a three-game series at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park.
Friday's opener will begin with a 6 p.m. first pitch with the series continuing on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1.
The opening game of the series will be available live on ESPN+ with Dan McDonald (pxp) and Brennan Breaux (color) on the call. Fans in the Lafayette area can listen to all three games on KPEL-FM (96.5) and worldwide on the Varsity Network app with Ian Auzenne (Friday/Saturday), Jay Walker (Sunday) and Brad Topham (all games) providing commentary.
Louisiana (2-2) will send left-hander Chase Morgan (1-0, 1.80 ERA) to the mound in Friday's opener with Blake McGehee (0-1, 12.00 ERA) slated to pitch on Saturday. The starter for the Ragin' Cajuns in Sunday's finale is to be determined.
True freshman Brooks Wright (.571-0-4) has gone 4-for-7 at the plate this season for the Ragin' Cajuns with Sam Ardoin (.500-0-1), Caleb Stelly (.286-0-3) and Luke Yuhasz (.286-0-1) following.
Nebraska (2-2) opened its season last weekend with three games in the MLB Desert Invitational in Scottsdale, Arizona, earning wins over Vanderbilt and San Diego State after an opening loss to UC Irvine. The Huskers, ranked No. 23 by D1Baseball and No. 22 in the NCBWA poll, dropped a 3-1 contest on Monday at Grand Canyon.
Right-hander Mason McConnaughey (0-1, 14.73 ERA) will start on the mound in Friday's opener for Nebraska with right-hander Ty Horn (0-0, 6.75 ERA) and southpaw Will Walsh (1-0, 0.00 ERA) starting in the final two games of the series.
Joshua Overbeek (.375-0-0) and Robby Bolin (.333.0-1) are Nebraska's top two hitters with Gabe Swansen (.250-1-9) and Max Buettenback (.143-1-4) each recording homers.
