Bennett, Cajuns Hold Overall Lead at Border Olympics

Louisiana holds three-stroke lead heading into Tuesday's final round
LAREDO, Texas – Kyle Bennett fired back-to-back rounds of 1-under-par 70 to finish in a tie for the individual lead while the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team opened its spring schedule with consecutive team scores of 2-over-par 286 to claim a three-shot lead after 36 holes at the Border Olympics on Monday at Laredo Country Club.

The final round of the 54-hole tournament is scheduled for an 8 a.m. shotgun start. Louisiana, which finished at 572 after 36 holes, will be paired with host Houston, Michigan and New Mexico State in the final round. Live scoring will be available by clicking here.

Bennett recorded eight birdies for Louisiana through the first 36 holes – one off the first-day lead – to finish tied with Michigan's Hunter Thomson and Houston's Laurenz Schiergen for the individual lead at 2-under-140. The New Orleans transfer posted three birdies, along with an eagle on the par-4, 349-yard No. 16 hole, in the second round.

Malan Potgieter and Eli Ortego joined Bennett in the top 11 in the individual standings with Jean Louis du Plessis and Carter Schmitt rounding out the lineup.

Potgieter, who finished tied for fourth in the 84-player field, opened the day with a 2-under 69 before posting a 1-over-72 in the afternoon and finishing one shot behind the leaders at 1-under-141.

Ortego opened the day with a 3-over-74 before shooting a 1-under-70 in the second round to finish tied for 11th at 2-over-144. Du Plessis finished at 5-over-147 with Schmitt finishing at 14-over-156.

Louisiana finished three strokes ahead of Houston (575) in the 16-team field with New Mexico State (576), Michigan (579) and Miami-Ohio (579) rounding out the top five.
