Louisiana Golf Opens Spring Season at Border Olympics

Ragin' Cajuns one of nine top-100 teams entered in 16-team field
LAREDO, Texas – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team opens the spring portion of its 2024-25 schedule on Monday when it opens play at the Border Olympics, hosted by the University of Houston.

The 54-hole tournament, played at the Laredo Country Club, will begin on Monday in an 8 a.m. shotgun start. The 16-team field will play 36 holes on Monday before playing the final 18 holes at 8 a.m. on Tuesday. Live scoring will be available by clicking here.

Louisiana, one of nine teams ranked in the Top 100 in the Scoreboard by Clippd, joins host Houston on the par-72, 7,375-yard course. Also competing in the field is Augusta, Houston Christian, defending champion Illinois State, Lamar, Lipscomb, Miami (Ohio), Michigan, New Mexico State, Rice, Sam Houston, Troy, ULM, UTRGV and Wright State.

The Ragin' Cajuns will field a lineup beginning with Malan Potgieter, the team leader in scoring average (70.93) in 15 rounds during the fall. The junior will be joined in the lineup by Carter Schmitt (73.25), Jean Louis du Plessis (76.78), Eli Ortego (72.07) and Kyle Bennett (74.33).

Louisiana competed in five events during the fall, earning three top-5 finishes. The Ragin' Cajuns will play the first of six event during the spring with competition coming at the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate (Feb. 24-26), the 40th annual Louisiana Classics (March 10-11), Old Corkscrew Intercollegiate (April 7-8), the Aggie Invitational (April 12-13) and the Sun Belt Conference Championships (April 21-24).
