Louisiana Re-Writes the Record Book on Day Two in Nashville

Louisiana finished the event with three school records and 11 program top-fives
NASHVILLE, Tennessee - In their final meet before the Sun Belt Conference Championships, the Louisiana track and field team looks to be a title contender after setting three school records and recording 11 top-fives at the Music City Challenge in Nashville, Tennessee.
For the second time in as many meets, Joe Patterson broke the men's 800m record, this time becoming the first Cajun to break 1:50 with a time of 1:48.44. Already holding the women's 800m outdoor record, Alexandra Johnson set the indoor record on Saturday with a time of 2:10.06. Freshman Lawson Jacobs ran a 46.46 in the 400m for the third record of the weekend.
Ella Segura came within a little over a second of the 3000m record at 9:53.89, moving her to number two in school history. Isabelle Russell clocked in just behind her at 9:56.61, the third-fastest time in the event by a Cajun.
Kobe Mendez also moved to number two in the record books in the 60m hurdles with his time of 7.97 seconds. Louisiana also clocked in with the second-best 4x400m relay in the men's and women's races. The women's team of Kayla Harrison, Moseiha Bridgen, Evalyn Abdmoulaie, and Quincy Simon finished with a time of 3:45.35. On the men's side, Jonathan Gammara, Caemon Scott, Jarell Joseph, and Lawson Jacobs ran a 3:09.40 and finished second overall in Nashville.
Jarell Joseph moved to third in the 400 after running a 47.43. Four Cajuns moved to fourth on the all-time list in their events. Alaysha Veal (1.73m, 5-8) in the high jump, Reem Tammam (6.18m, 20-3.5) in the long jump, Skylar Delgado (5:01.31) in the mile, and Amairi Ashford (7.51) in the 60m. Patterson (4:10.06) also moved to fifth in the indoor mile. Oliver Jack just missed a top five in the weight throw, coming in at sixth, 19.24m, 63-1.5, on the opening night of the competition.
Louisiana is set for the SBC Championships in Birmingham, Alabama beginning Monday, February 24.
