Strong Showings Pace Cajuns at SBC Championships

Five runners earn All-SBC honors as Louisiana post pair of top-5 finishes
FOLEY, Ala. – Paced by top-five individual finishes from Isabelle Russell and Ella Segura on the women's side and Henry Lyon on the men's, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Cross Country teams posted solid outings at the 2025 Sun Belt Conference Championships held Friday morning at Graham Creek Nature Preserve.
Louisiana's women earned a fourth-place team finish in the 5K race with 101 points, narrowly missing a podium spot behind App State, Southern Miss, and Texas State. The men placed fifth overall in the 8K competition with 133 points, led by Lyon's top-three finish.
WOMEN'S 5K RECAP
Russell, a junior from Benton, clocked a time of 17:15.10 to finish fourth overall, while Segura followed just two seconds later in 17:17.20 for fifth. The pair helped Louisiana secure its lowest point total since 1990 and equal its best finish since 2014.
Rounding out the scoring lineup for Louisiana were Chloé Crowell (16th, 17:51.10) – a second-team All-Sun Belt performer – Brooke Spalitta (30th, 18:07.10), and Spencer Frierson (46th, 18:18.70). Skylar Delgado (55th, 18:24.50), Juliana Courville (56th, 18:26.70) and Samantha Ponzo (57th, 18:27.80) rounded out the Ragin' Cajuns lineup.
App State captured the team title with 77 points, followed by Southern Miss (88), Texas State (98), and Louisiana (101).
MEN'S 8K RECAP
Lyon equaled the program's best individual conference finishes by a Louisiana runner since Beau Robinson in 2017, finishing third overall with a time of 24:05.51. Matthew Maynard (20th, 24:59.49) – a third-team All-SBC performer – and Mason Haley (36th, 25:35.77) joined Lyon among Louisiana's top finishers.
Jackson Jarrett (38th, 25:40.64) and John Walker McDonald (40th, 25:46.40) rounded out the scoring five for Louisiana, with Peyton Bourgeois (43rd, 25:52.00), Reed Boudreaux (55th, 26:26.97) and Justin Descant (70th, 27:24.98) rounding out the lineup.
App State claimed the men's title with 32 points, followed by Arkansas State (83), ULM (103), Texas State (121), and Louisiana (133).

Louisiana will now turn its attention to the NCAA South Central Regional Championships, scheduled for Friday, Nov. 14, in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
