Women finish 21st; Men place 23rd in strong regional field at Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Cross Country teams turned in steady performances on Friday as they competed against a deep regional field at the Arturo Barrios Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M at the Dale Watts Cross Country Course.
 
The Louisiana women's team finished 21st overall in the 37-team field, posting a team score of 588 with a total time of 1:50:26.60 and an average of 22:05 per runner over the 6-kilometer course.
 
Junior Ella Segura led the Ragin' Cajuns with a time of 21:23.6 to finish 72nd overall among 311 finishers in the 6K race. Isabelle Russell posted a time of 21:49.1 to finish 94th overall and was followed by Chloe Crowell (22:05.1, 113th), Samantha Ponzo (22:28.6, 149th), Spencer Frierson (22:40.2, 160th), Skylar Delgado (22:58.4, 175th), Camryn Haik (23:06.5, 183rd), Juliana Courville (23:21.4), and Angelle Dupuis (23:24.1).
 
On the men's side, Louisiana placed 23rd among 32 competing schools, tallying 640 points with a combined time of 2:07:04.30 and an average of 25:24 across the 8-kilometer race.
 
Junior Henry Lyon led Louisiana as he crossed the finish line in 24:06.2 to finish 44th overall. Matthew Maynard was 147th in the field with a time of 25:06.7 with sophomore Peyton Bourgeois posting a time of 25:37.0, to place 148th.
 
He was followed by Mason Haley (26:05.2, 166th), John Walker McDonald (26:09.2, 170th), Jackson Jarrett (26:13.1, 174th), and Justin Descant (26:49.3, 194th) to complete Louisiana's scoring lineup.
 
Louisiana will return to action on Oct. 31 when it travels to Foley, Ala., to compete in the Sun Belt Conference Championships.
