Louisiana poised to contend for SBC women's title; men look to reach podium for first time since 2016
LAFAYETTE – Coming off one of its strongest combined conference championship performances, the Louisiana cross country teams looks to take another step forward Friday when the Ragin' Cajuns compete in the 2026 Sun Belt Conference Championships at Graham Creek Nature Preserve in Foley, Alabama.
Â
The men's 8K race is scheduled for 8:30 a.m., followed by the women's 5K at 9:15 a.m. Both races will be streamed live on ESPN+, with live results available at RaginCajuns.com.
Â
Louisiana's women finished fourth at the 2025 championships, narrowly missing a podium finish behind App State, Southern Miss and Texas State. The performance marked the program's lowest point total since 1990 and matched its best conference championship finish since 2014.
Â
Leading the way were Isabelle Russell and Ella Segura, who each earned first-team All-Sun Belt honors with top-five finishes. Russell placed fourth in 17 minutes, 15.10 seconds, while Segura followed in fifth at 17:17.20. Chloé Crowell also earned all-conference recognition, claiming second-team honors with a 16th-place finish.
Â
The Ragin' Cajuns return a strong contingent from last year's squad as they look to contend for the conference title. Angelle Dupuis, Brooke Berger, Elizabeth Stamey, Elizabeth Rodrigue and Cate Williamson will make their first appearances on the Graham Creek course. Louisiana enters the meet ranked No. 12 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association South Central Region.
Â
On the men's side, Louisiana looks to improve on its fifth-place finish from a year ago, with Matthew Maynard leading the way after earning third-team All-Sun Belt honors in 2025.
Â
Mason Haley, Jackson Jarrett, Peyton Bourgeois and Reed Boudreaux also return to the conference championship lineup, joined by Kohl Fuecht and freshmen Taylor Roller and Rowan Silk as the Ragin' Cajuns look to move up the team standings.
