Louisiana Continues Hot Start to Indoor Season at Robert Platt Invitational

The Ragin’ Cajuns posted a school record, had 10 top-three finishes, and won three events
HOUSTON, Texas - The Louisiana track and field team picked up where they left off last meet with an impressive showing on day one of the Robert Platt Invitational in Houston, Texas.
Lily Murray headlined the day with a school record and victory in the weight throw. The sophomore's throw of 64-1 was roughly 2.5 feet further than the record set back in 2018 by Tisay Woodhouse. Kimola Hines finished third in the event with a throw of 55-10.5.
Isabelle Russell continued her big sophomore campaign with a win in the 5000m. Her time of 17:21.65 was the second-fastest in school history, just beating out teammate Ella Segura's 17:21.69. Segura moved to third in school history in her effort.
Jeremy Nelson won his second meet of the year in the triple jump. The junior won with a jump of 50-4. Not to be outdone, Reem Tammam finished third in the women's triple jump at 40-0.75.
The 1000m had a Cajun influence at the top. Joe Patterson finished second (2:24.41) while Peyton Chiasson was just behind him in fourth place (2:26.93). Matthew Maynard (2:32.76) was eighth and Reece Shelby (2:33.78) was ninth to give Louisiana four runners in the top 10. The women placed five in the top eight of their event. Juliana Courville paced the team in third place with a time of 2:56.95. She was followed by Alexandra Johnson (2:56.99, fourth), Skylar Delgado (2:59.26, fifth), Caroline Spalitta (3:00.59, sixth), and Angelle Dupuis (3:09.17, eighth) rounded out the top finishers.
In the 400m, Quincy Simon took home third at 56.27 as did Lawson Jacobs on the men's side with a time of 48.06. Louden Boudreaux was third in the 5000m, finishing in 14:51.88. Rounding out the top three finishers were Jordan Brown in the pole vault (12-2.5) and Oliver Jack in the weight throw (61-7.5).
The Cajuns wrap up the Robert Platt Invitational tomorrow with events beginning at 9:30 a.m.
