Cajun Defense Shuts Down Bobcats to Earn Mid-Week Road Win

Kentrell Garnett led the team with 15 points while Chancellor White scored a career-high 14 off the bench
SAN MARCOS, Texas - The Louisiana men's basketball team got back in the win column with a 70-61 victory over Texas State on Thursday in Strahan Arena. Louisiana has now won six of the last seven in the series.
Kentrell Garnett led the way with 15 points, hitting three from long range. The senior is now just 13 points away from 1,000 for his Cajun career. Chancellor White added a career-high 14 points off the bench, hitting four threes.
The Cajun defense shut down the Bobcat offense. Louisiana allowed just 61 points after Texas State scored 89 in Lafayette. Tylen Pope, who scored 25 points last week against Louisiana, was held to just two on 1-of-8 shooting.
Texas State came out firing and took a 16-7 lead on Louisiana. After the first media timeout of the night, both offenses went cold but Texas State held onto a 23-14 advantage. White then woke up the Cajun offense. The sophomore hit a pair of threes on back-to-back possessions to make it a one-score game.
After a Michael Thomas bucket got Louisiana within one, White's third three of the half gave them their first lead of the game at 29-27. The Cajuns continued to pour it on, ending the half on a 21-5 run overall and took a 33-27 lead into the locker room.
Kyran Ratliff scored right out of the half to make it an eight-point lead but the Bobcats responded. They chipped away at the Cajun lead and eventually went back ahead at 40-38. Christian Wright flipped the lead back in favor of Louisiana after a three-point play. The home side hit a pair of free throws on the following possession to go ahead by one but London Fields hit a corner three to make it 44-42 Cajuns.
After the Bobcats evened the score at 44, Zeke Cook hit a pair of free throws and Mostapha El Moutaouakkil hit back-to-back buckets for a six-point lead. Garnett hit a pair of threes down the stretch, including one that gave Louisiana a 10-point lead with just over three minutes to play.
The Ragin' Cajuns return home to face South Alabama on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Cajundome.
