Louisiana Opens Indoor Season with Strong Performance at Purple Tiger Invite

The Cajuns posted 14 personal records, nine top 100 NCAA scores, and two new entries into the record book

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana - The Louisiana track and field team started the 2025 indoor season with a bang at the Purple Tiger Invite on Friday in Baton Rouge. The Cajuns recorded 14 personal bests, nine top 100 NCAA scores, and had two new scores to add to the school record book.
 
The day began with a dominating performance in the women's weight throw, taking three of the top five spots. Lily Murray won the event with a throw of 18.40m, the second-longest throw in school history and the 56th-best throw in the NCAA this season. Kimola Hines was right behind her at 17.50m, the fourth-longest throw in school history. Marin Barras capped the day in fifth place at 16.11m. The men's weight throw saw two PRs by Oliver Jack (17.82m) and Praiyer Jones (14.92m). Jones also placed third in the shot put at 16.02m.
 
Louisiana was also at the top of the pole vault events. The men saw Teodor Borgius just edge out Timothy Gale, with both competitors finishing at 5.02m. Borgius cleared his jump on the first attempt to take first place overall while Gale cleared it on attempt two for second. For the women, Jordan Brown finished second with a jump of 3.03m.
 
Jeremy Nelson and Reem Tammam made it a sweep of the triple jump events. Nelson ended the day with the 13th-best score in the NCAA after clearing 15.45m. Tammam is 44th in the NCAA after her jump of 12.19m. Kay-Lagay Clarke impressed in her Cajun debut with a jump of 11.85m, the 91st-best score in the NCAA.
 
The high jump had a Cajun flare at the top. Alaysha Veal finished second with a jump of 1.68m on the women's side. For the men, Kaleb Goodly and Kyron Sumler both cleared 2.03m, the 73rd-best score in the NCAA.
 
Alexandra Johnson started her senior season with a win in the 600, recording a personal-best time of 1:35.82. In the 60m hurdles, Clarke qualified for the finals and finished fifth at 8.73. Cole Palmer placed fourth (8.09) and Kobe Mendez (8.18) was fifth while both recorded a PR.
Three Cajuns qualified for the men's 60m finals. Lawson Jacobs led the way in third place at 6.83, just ahead of Mark Daley's 6.86 for fourth. Camren Hardy also qualified for the final and placed seventh at 8.19.
 
In distance events, the Cajuns were at the top of the leaderboards. The women's mile was led by Isabelle Russell's 5:04.97 and Ella Segura's 5:05.11. Russell just missed cracking a program top-five by 0.37 seconds. The duo also recorded a top-five result in the 3000m. Segura had a PR of 10:11.93 to finish third while Russell was fifth at 10:14.04. Juliana Courville would win the women's 800 with a time of 2:20.5.
 
Joe Patterson had a strong afternoon for Louisiana. Patterson won the men's 800 with a time of 1:55.73, 98th in the NCAA, and finished third in the mile with a PR of 4:12.71. Louden Boudreaux was right behind him at 4:13.58, Reece Shelby in sixth at 4:18.63, and Matthew Maynard in eighth at 4:20.07. Boudreaux followed that with a fourth-place finish in the 3000m at 8:35.13 with Shelby (8:54.72) and John Walker McDonald (9:05.55) also placing in the top 10.
 
The day ended with a sweep of the 4x400 relay. The women's team of Quincy Simon, Moseiha Bridgen, Chiniqua Tonge, and Kayla Harrison won with a time of 3:53.98. Behind them in fourth were Shenell Tucker, Madelyn McCabe, Evalyn Abdoumalaie, and Kenzie Touchet at 4:00.08.
 
The men's quartet of Caemon Scott, Jarell Joseph, Mark Dailey, and Lawson Jacobs won with a time of 3:15.07. In third place were Darrius Charles, Hunter Ullrich, Mehki Boutte, and Jonathan Gamarra at 3:21.53.
 
The Cajuns are back in action in two weeks at the Robert Platt Invitational in Houston, Texas.
