Cajuns Record Nine First-Place Finishes at McNeese Cowboy Relays

Louisiana gets outdoor season started; will host Louisiana Classics beginning Friday
LAKE CHARLES – Louisiana recorded nine first-place finishes, highlighted by a pair of victories from Federico Bovo in the men's 110- and 400-meter hurdles, as the Ragin' Cajuns track and field team opened its outdoor season Saturday at the McNeese State Cowboy Relays held at the Bill and Lena Henning Track and Field Complex.
Andrea Monroy claimed one of five first-place finishes on the women's side after winning the 100-meter hurdles in 14.92 seconds, while Kenzie Touchet added a victory in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.12. Bethany Casey captured the high jump title after clearing 1.60 meters (5 feet, 3 inches), with Monroy finishing second in the event at 1.45 meters.
Louisiana swept the top three spots in the women's pole vault. Jasmine Sakaguchi and Lauren Roberts each cleared 3.75 meters (12-3½), with Sakaguchi earning the victory on attempts. Rachel Kerr finished third after clearing 3.30 meters.
In the throws, Laila Guy won the shot put with a mark of 14.29 meters (46-10¾), while teammate Aniya Hill finished third at 12.61 meters. Guy also earned a third-place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 50.66 meters (166-2).
Touchet added a runner-up finish in the long jump with a leap of 5.03 meters (16-6). In the javelin, Sarah Dupuy placed third with a throw of 42.84 meters and Ellie Manuel finished fourth at 40.27 meters.
On the men's side, Bovo posted a standout performance, winning the 110-meter hurdles in 14.12 seconds before returning to claim the 400-meter hurdles title in 55.97.
Jemar Ferguson captured the men's javelin with a throw of 65.95 meters (216-4). Robert Conley finished third at 59.97 meters (196-9), while Will Howard (57.28m/187-11) and Sam Kinnard (56.77m/186-3) placed fifth and sixth, respectively.
Praiyer Jones claimed the men's discus title with a throw of 51.36 meters (168-6), while Devonte Edwards finished second at 46.68 meters (153-2). The duo also placed in the shot put, with Edwards taking second at 17.39 meters and Jones finishing third at 17.30 meters. Chase Lathrop added a fourth-place mark of 14.09 meters.
Louisiana returns home next weekend to host the Louisiana Classics at the Home Bank Soccer and Track Complex. Competition begins Friday at 3 p.m. with the javelin and discus and concludes Saturday. Distance events are scheduled to start at 7 a.m., followed by field events at 10 a.m. and running events at 1 p.m.
