Russell Leads Louisiana at Texas A&M Invitational

The sophomore led the way with a 24th-place finish
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Isabelle Russell led the way for the Louisiana cross country team with a 24th-place finish at the Texas A&M Invitational in Bryan-College Station, Texas on Friday. The sophomore was the highest-finishing Cajun on the women's side while Louden Boudreaux had the best finish for the men.
Russell clocked in at 18:02.2 in the 5k, edging out teammate Ella Segura who placed 33rd at 18:17.3. Alexandra Johnson placed 63rd at 19:08.8, followed by Juliana Courville in 65th at 19:12.4 and Brooke Spalitta in 69th at 19:16.9.
Boudreaux finished the 8k in 40th at 24:51.6. Right behind him was Reece Shelby in 47th at 24:59.0 and Joe Patterson in 50th at 25:04.9. Peyton Chiasson (66th, 25:37.6) and John Walker McDonald (67th, 25:38.2) rounded out the scorers for Louisiana.
SMU's Kaitlyn Gearin, 17:05.6, was the women's individual champion as the Mustangs also took the team event. For the men, Bernard Cheruiyot of Tulane was the individual champion with TCU finishing as the best team.
The Cajuns are back in action on Saturday, September 28 in the McNeese Cowboy Stampede in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
