Cajuns Dominate Cowboy Stampede, Chiasson Claims Men’s Individual Title

Louisiana’s men won the team event while the women took second
LAKE CHARLES - It was a terrific showing for the Louisiana cross country team on Saturday at the Cowboy Stampede in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Peyton Chiasson was the winning runner on the men's side while the Cajuns ran away with it as a team with 24 points. Isabelle Russell led the women in second place while the team took second behind Houston Christian.
Three Cajun men finished in the top five of the four-mile run, led by Chiasson's time of 19:20.90. Following him in second was Louden Boudreaux at 19:27.50 while John Walker McDonald ran fifth at 19:31.40. Joe Patterson, 19:34.40, finished seventh and Reece Shelby, 19:42.90, took ninth, putting five Cajuns in the top 10. The men also got strong performances out of Matthew Maynard, 20:02.30, in 12th and Joshua Quintana, 20:20.30, in 16th, even though they didn't count towards the team score.
Russell took second with a time of 17:05.10, finishing just ahead of third-place finisher Ella Segura's 17:12.86. Brook Spalitta, 18:10.58, took ninth while Skylar Delgado, 18:15.35, was 10th, giving Louisiana four top 10 performances. Caroline Spalitta, 18:32.57, capped off the team's scorers in 14th place. Juliana Courville, 18:34.59 in 15th place, Chloe Crowell, 18:46.01 in 17th place, and Angelle Dupuis, 18:50.00 in 19th place, also had a good day for Louisiana.
The Cajuns have just one meet remaining before the Sun Belt Conference Championships. Next up for Louisiana is the Arturo Barrios Invitational on October 18 in Bryan-College Station, Texas.
