Cajun Defense Stingy in Sunday Draw

Louisiana posted a clean sheet for the second time in three games
LAFAYETTE - After a big offensive performance on Thursday, it was the Louisiana soccer team's defense with the sensational performance in Sunday's 0-0 draw with Florida Atlantic. It was the team's second time in three games without allowing a goal.
"FAU is a really talented team," said head coach Chris McBride. "The scout was good and they have lots of threats offensively. We prepared the team to take away their forwards. They also have a good defensive group, and I felt both teams made it hard for the opposition to score."
Louisiana has allowed just two goals through their first four games of the young season. The team has only allowed three shots on goal through the first three games of this homestand, including just one on Sunday.
"We've taken the mindset of let's put in the work early and keep the ball in their half," said defender Lauren Bennett. "That makes it easier to press and score when you're not as far back. We've been working hard and our midfielders have done a great job."
It was another hot day on the pitch, with kickoff at noon. Louisiana dug deep into their bench with 19 players playing 20 or more minutes and only Bennett and goalkeeper Natalie Mayes playing the full 90. Great depth and preparation have allowed the team to play so many players without a drop off in production, while also allowing legs to stay fresh.
"That's paramount to a really, really cohesive team," said McBride. "The team is really good at buying into their role, everyone has a purpose here, and I think that's helped early on to get the performances we've been looking for."
