The Ragin’ Cajuns are 5-0-1 in home openers dating back to 2018
LAFAYETTE - The Louisiana soccer team goes for win number two this year as they host Louisiana Tech in their home opener on Sunday at the Home Bank Soccer & Track Complex.

"Cajun country is so for real," said senior Lauren Bennett. "They always come out and make it a great atmosphere. Playing in front of our family and fans while also seeing the community and the kids that come to our camps makes for an unreal atmosphere."

The Ragin' Cajuns earned a 2-1 win over McNeese on Thursday in their season opener. Louisiana got a first half goal from freshman Adeline Nemeth, who became the first Cajun freshman since Courtney Hofland in 2006 to score in the season opener. Mariella Stephens added a goal in the second half to build an insurmountable lead.

"We came out with a really good mindset," said Nemeth. "We won a lot of balls in the midfield and that led to a lot of offensive opportunities in the win."

Louisiana looks to carry the momentum from Thursday into Sunday after controlling the pace for nearly the entire 90 minutes, only surrendering a goal in the final 30 seconds off a corner kick. The team attributes the domination to the level of fitness the team achieved in the offseason.

"We had freshmen and newcomers come in fit and matched what the returners had done in the offseason," said Bennett. "It just added to the standard we had set as a team and we were able to get moving right away."

The Ragin' Cajuns remain at home to host Middle Tennessee on Thursday, August 22 at 7 p.m. from the Home Bank Soccer & Track Complex.
