Louisiana Hosts UT Dallas on Thursday Night

The Ragin’ Cajuns face the Comets in the first meeting between the schools
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana men's basketball team welcomes UT Dallas to the Cajundome this Thursday at 7 p.m. for a non-conference contest. Louisiana looks for their first win of the year while Thursday night marks the first game of the year for the Comets who will count it as an exhibition.
Kentrell Garnett led the way for Louisiana in Monday's season opener with 14 points. The senior was 4-of-5 from three and added three assists. Christian Wright had 11 points and three assists in his Louisiana debut, while Zeke Cook, 10 points and eight rebounds, and Mostapha El Moutaouakkil, 10 points and seven rebounds, also had strong debuts.
Louisiana welcomes UT Dallas to the Cajundome for the first meeting between the schools. Last season the Comets won the American Southwest Conference and reached the Division III National Tournament, where they reached the second round. Next season the Comets will join the Lone Star Conference at the Division II level.

• Louisiana opened the season against Kent State on Monday, a 70-66 defeat, as part of the MAC-SBC Challenge. In the opening game of this year's series, the Sun Belt Conference went 8-4.
• Last season the Ragin' Cajuns led the country in three-point percentage defense at .276.
• Since the start of the 2022-23 season, the Ragin' Cajuns are 25-4 (.893) at the CAJUNDOME, including a 19-game winning streak, the second-longest in CAJUNDOME history.
• Monday's defeat snapped a 13-game winning streak in home openers dating back to 2010-11, Bob Marlin's first season with the Ragin' Cajuns. Louisiana is now 31-8 all-time in Cajundome openers.
• Louisiana meets with UT Dallas for the first time in program history. The Comets are transitioning from Division III to Division II beginning next season. Last year the Comets won the American Southwest Conference Tournament to reach the Division III Tournament.
• Kentrell Garnett made four 3's on Monday, giving him 186 for his career. The senior is closing in on becoming the seventh player in program history to make 200 threes as a Ragin' Cajun. Monday was the senior's 121 game at Louisiana, tying him for the 10th most in program history.
• Newcomers made a strong first impression in their Cajun debuts on Monday. Three of the four players in double figures, Mostapha El Moutaouakkil, Christian Wright, and Zeke Cook, did so in their Louisiana debut.
