Five Cajuns finished in double figures as they had their best offensive game of the year

ST. THOMAS, USVI—Five players finished in double figures, and the Louisiana men's basketball team had their best offensive output of the season but it wasn't enough as the Cajuns fell to UAB 98-86 in the final round of the U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam on Monday. Louisiana had their best shooting game from the field, 33-64 (.516), and scored their most points this season.

Mostapha El Moutaouakkil led the way with 19 points and four rebounds. Christian Wright continued his strong offensive output with 15 points and six assists. Kyndall Davis had a strong all-around game with 13 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and a pair of blocks. Koron Davis scored 14 off the bench while Kyran Ratliff finished with a career-high 13 points with five rebounds.

El Moutatouakkil was hot early, scoring 10 of the first 15 Cajun points. The sides went back and forth and UAB took a five-point advantage but a three by Ratliff made it a one-possession game again. Koron Davis got things even again at 26 with a steal and slam with 5:51 and Kyndall Davis put Louisiana back in front with a tip-in on the following possession.

After trading baskets, Louisiana trailed 39-38 with two minutes to play in the half. Kentrell Garnett's layup sparked a 6-0 run that saw the Cajuns take a 44-42 lead into the locker room.

Tied at 46 in the second half, Wright hit a three that woke the Cajun offense up. Ratliff followed with a layup to answer a basket by the Blazers and Garnett connected on a three for a six-point lead. A layup by Ratliff pushed Louisiana ahead by eight but the Blazers scored seven of the next nine points to get it back within a possession.

Kyndall Davis hit from deep to push the lead back to eight with 10:43 to go at 67-59. UAB's offense caught fire from there, outscoring the Cajuns 39-19 the rest of the way to come away with the win.

Wright led Louisiana at the Paradise Jam, averaging 16.3 points per game over three games. El Moutaouakkil averaged 15.3 points and 4.3 rebounds while Ratliff finished the event at 10.3 points and a team-leading 5.0 rebounds per contest.

Louisiana returns home to face Nicholls at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the Cajundome.
