The duo combined to score 42 points in Louisiana’s fifth-straight win
LAFAYETTE, Louisiana – The winning streak was extended to five as the Louisiana men's basketball team was in complete control on Sunday against Texas State in the Cajundome. The Cajuns held the Bobcats to just 35.3 percent shooting and forced 20 turnovers in a 66-46 win.
Themus Fulks led all scorers with 23 points, tying the second most of his career, on 9-of-14 shooting. Not to be outdone, Kobe Julien recorded his first double-double of the year with a 19-point, 10-rebound performance.
Hosana Kitenge added 13 points, six rebounds, and two blocks to the effort while Joe Charles was once again a force on the boards with 13.
It was a game of runs early for both sides. Louisiana (13-8, 6-3 SBC) jumped out to a 6-0 lead to force a timeout. Out of the timeout, Texas State (7-14, 1-8) responded with a run of their own and took a one-point lead at 7-6.
Julien ended the run with a three and Fulks followed with a three-point play. Moments later Kentrell Garnett capped an 11-0 run with the Cajuns ahead 17-7. Later in the half, the Bobcats cut the lead to just three at 22-19 but Fulks steadied things with a jumper. For the rest of the half, the teams alternated scores and the Cajuns led 30-24 going into the locker room.
The Cajuns started the second half by forcing five turnovers on the first six Bobcat possessions as they grew their lead to 14. Holding a 40-28 lead, a pair of Julien buckets sandwiched around a three at the end of the shot clock by Fulks put things out of reach with a 7-0 run.
The Bobcats got the game back within 14, but Charles hit a three to start another 7-0 run and made it a 21-point advantage. From there it was just a matter of winding out the clock for the Cajuns for their fifth straight win.
It's a short week for the Cajuns as they host in-state rival ULM on Wednesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. from the Cajundome as Louisiana looks to make it six in a row.
