Louisiana Finishes on the Podium Five Times in Birmingham

The Cajuns ended with one first-place, one second-place, and three third-place finishes

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama - The Louisiana track and field team finished on the podium five times at the Samford Invitational held in the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Alabama. Trejun Jones came away victorious in the 200-meter while the women's 4x400 relay team took home second.
 
Jones won the event with a time of 21.58 seconds. It was a tightly contested race with teammate Jamhad Booth just missing a top-three finish by 0.09 seconds. The women closed the day with their performance in the 4x400-meter relay. The quartet of Ta'La Spates, Kenzie Touhcet, Quincy Simon, and Moseiha Bridgen crossed the finish line second with a time of 3:48.90.
 
The Cajuns also had a trio of third-place finishes on the day. Freshman Lauren Roberts took third in the pole vault, clearing 12 feet 6.25 inches. Taylor Davis jumped 5 feet 5.25 inches in the high jump for her third-place finish. Kayla Meyers got on the podium in the 60-meter hurdlers with a time of 8.75 seconds, narrowly beating out teammate Bridgen's time of 8.77 seconds.
 
Louisiana had plenty of other strong performances on the day. In the women's 200-meter, Spates came in fourth with a time of 24.77. Alaysha Veal was not far behind Davis in the high jump, coming up two inches short of placing. 
 
In the long jump, the Cajuns had a pair of fifth-place finishes with Shemia Odaine (17 feet 11.5 inches) doing so on the women's side and Montrell Morris (22 feet 1.75 inches) for the men. Teodor Borgius just missed a second-straight podium with a fourth-place showing in the pole vault, clearing 16 feet 7.25 inches. Tyren Hannah also finished fourth in the men's weight throw with a distance of 64 feet 2.5 inches.
 
The Cajuns head to Houston next weekend for their third meet of the indoor season.
