Louisiana-Alcorn State Match Called Due to Weather

The Cajuns led 5-0 in the second half before the game was called due to weather
LAFAYETTE – After 18 days on the road the Louisiana soccer team returned home for an offensive flurry, scoring five goals against Alcorn State on Thursday night at the Home Bank Track & Soccer Complex. The game was declared unofficial, and stats not counted, after lightning storms in the area halted the game with 28:18 left in regulation.
The Cajuns opened the scoring in the eighth minute when Hailly Waterhouse connected on a penalty kick after a handball in the box. Minutes later, Sisley Stephens' right foot found the back of the net from six yards out off an assist from Tatum Beck and Lucy Ortiz.
Just 31 seconds later, the Cajuns added to their lead when Mariella Stephens connected on a header from the right side of the box off a cross from Cassandra Décombe. The defense held the Lady Braves to just one shot in the opening 45 minutes of action.
The offense continued in the second half with Alyssa Abbott's right-footed blast from right beyond the penalty marker in the 53rd minute. Tatum Beck redirected a shot from Anneliese Switzer from inside the box for the fifth Cajun goal of the night, moments before the teams were pulled off the pitch due to weather.
Lucy Ortiz had a pair of assists, while Décombe, Beck, Waterhouse, and Switzer each had one. Natalie Mayes only faced one shot in the freshman's first appearance in net.
The Cajuns are back in action Sunday at 5 p.m. as they welcome Lamar to Lafayette in their final non-conference contest.
