Louisiana to host James Madison in SBC contest on Saturday
LAFAYETTE – Skylar Blaise's header midway through the 54th minute broke a scoreless contest and ULM claimed a 1-0 Sun Belt Conference victory over the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns on Sunday at the Home Bank Track and Soccer Complex.
Louisiana (4-4-2, 1-2-0 SBC), which was held to five shots overall in the match, missed a scoring chance in the 12th minute when Tatum Beck's attempt from inside the 6-yard box bounced off the right post. The Ragin' Cajuns had a chance at an equalizer in the 89th minute when Karleen Bedre's attempt from inside the ULM box slipped past the left post.
ULM (7-2-2, 2-1-0 SBC) scored on its first corner kick of the afternoon as the Warhawks played the ball short. Lena Goppel's pass into the box was controlled by Inge Konst before Blaise scored her second goal of the season.
The Warhawks took 14 shots in the match with Mara Grutkamp sending eight shots towards the net with three on frame. Alexa Castro Vivas claimed the win in goal for ULM after taking over for starter Mickaela Leal in the second half.
Makenna Garcia stopped four shots for Louisiana with Sophie Placke putting a shot on frame in the second half. Lauren Bennett and Kylar Coffman, making her collegiate debut, each added a shot for the Ragin' Cajuns while Bedre earned her 80th career start tying her for the school's all-time lead.
Louisiana will return to action on Saturday when it plays host to James Madison (5-2-4, 2-0-1 SBC) in a 1 p.m. contest. Admission to all Ragin' Cajuns Soccer matches is free.
